When would you want to filter ditch water?
Water filters for third world countries
A water filter ditch water is considered the ultimate test among filters. Surface water, because of its "surface" exposure, quickly becomes contaminated by a variety of conditions. Such as bird droppings or waste from people living nearby. In the Netherlands there is in principle little reason to make drinking water from ditch water, however in third world countries where people have no access to alternatives this is done as an emergency solution. This is life threatening and to this day also claims many lives. When using our ditch water filter, however, this can be prevented. Our filters reduce the bacteria content to such an extent that the water is safe enough to drink.
It would be best if the ditch water were also properly boiled through first, but often people in developing countries are so poor that they can't afford the fuel to do this either. Even in this case, our ditch water filters are good enough to be safe to drink from.
Note that the dirtier the water, the sooner the filter element needs replacement.
For travelers
Ditch water filters are also useful for travelers looking for a way to get a quick drink on the go without relying on purchased water. Aqualogic offers top quality surface water filters at a great price, so you'll always have access to healthy, clean drinking water no matter where you are.

The combination of activated carbon and ultra-membranes in filtering ditch water
The most effective way to filter ditch water is to combine the filter elements activated carbon and ultra-membranes. Activated carbon is a type of carbon that has been slightly oxidized and therefore has many small pores. These pores can help remove dirt, chemicals, and other impurities from the water. This keeps out the coarsest dirt. After the ditch water passes the activated carbon, all harmful bacteria are stopped by ultra-membranes with tiny openings through which only h2o and any minerals can pass. Thus, the water is safe and drinkable.

How healthy is filtered ditch water?
While filtering ditch water can help purify the water from infections, it is important to remember that the filtered water can only be used for drinking as an emergency solution. There may still be microorganisms and bacteria in the water that are not stopped by the filter. Also remember that the more intensively the filters are used, the sooner they should be replaced.
Note: A TDS meter cannot be used to measure how healthy the water is.

Ditch water filtration system
What is the difference between a simple water filter and a ditch water filtration system?
A simple water filter is a smaller device that can be used to filter water from a tap, faucet, or bottle. They are often easy to use and cost-effective. A ditch water filtration system is often a more complete system designed specifically to filter water from ditches, canals, or soil. They are usually more efficient and can remove more impurities from the water, but also often more expensive.
Ditch water filter for at home
If your backyard borders a ditch, you can use a ditch water filter for your home. However, we do recommend choosing rainwater or groundwater as natural water to filter at all times. Ditch water filtration is an emergency solution, and while it is possible to turn it into safe drinking water with our filters, we do not recommend it as a long-term solution.
